Happy Friday! It's so late, this is hardly a Friday post, but it'll have to do. I hope your week hasn't been too bad and that your weekend ends up perfectly! My baby boy been teething all week and I'm ready for it to end! I wish I didn't feel this way, but this is definitely been a trying week. Oh well, God is in control, and I've had a great peace even through the frustration. I'm sure mothers a toddler can relate. Omar felt so sorry for me Thursday night that he brought me beautiful flowers when he came home from work.
I wanted to share this sweet little outfit with you as a Fabulous Thrifted Friday outfit. The dress was on a BOGO sale and this darling ombre vest was a hand-me-down. I thought they went absolutely perfect together and gave a very simple dress a lot of pizzazz. I know some people really enjoy just the simple things, but I like things that have a lot of character but are still classy. I feel like a well-dressed woman is a respected women.
I added the gold tassel necklace to give the dress some dimension, since I didn't belt it, which would be darling by the way. And it definitely helped give the front of the dress a little bit of interest, without drawing away from the beautiful vest
You could totally wear this look casual with a little pair of ankle booties or mules too! I was going for more of a Sunday best outfit or even an autumn work week look.
Is it hot where you guys are too? It is just not feeling like fall at all! I wanted to smell the lovely autumn smell and feel the beautiful autumn weather, and it's just not happening. It's like 80 degrees. Ugh! I'm going through fall withdrawals, and I'm dying to wear these clothes! Waaaah!
I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week, and I can't wait to see y'all back here Monday! God bless!
Happy Hump Day! I feel like I say that exact same greeting every Wednesday. It just sounds so bland to say, "Happy Wednesday." But maybe I should try... I don't know. But I guess it doesn't really matter all that much, huh? It's another day, we're alive and I am grateful.
Yesterday was a tough mom day for me though, I'm gonna be honest. Sami woke up at 11pm Monday with diarrhea and has been fighting watery stool ever since. I know that's probably TMI, but seriously y'all...Mom Life... He is staying hydrated, not acting sick, and eating as normal. He does have a narlie diaper rash though, that is really making him uncomfortable. And as Momma, I feel so bad! And OMGosh, I totally almost ran out of diapers too! Which really would have been a winning moment. Oh, and let us not forget that we are also missing a screw from an light switch that just happens to be over Sami's crib and I can't find it. ::Freak Out, Mom Moment:: Now I'm over here like, "Did he swollow it?" Am I gonna find a screw in his poop? IDK... So, as you can probably imagine, as this is literally the first time Sami has fought anything worse than a cold, I am kinda panicky and on edge, ON TOP OF THE FACT, I am also super hormonal...yep. Yeah, yesterday was a day of lots of prayer, Bible reading, and the hubs talking me down.
So, what better time then this to share an amazing P.M.S. fighting desert, full of flavor and full of endorphin releasing chocolate! If you love sweets, you are sure to love this incredible ice cream pie. I promise, I don't eat this way all the time, but there are days like yesterday, where a good slice could do wonders. Nothing should take the spot of eating healthy, good for you foods that naturally help regulate hormones, but there are times where nothing but a delicious dessert and some prayer helps.
If I haven't already mentioned it, I am gluten-intolerant, so most recipes I share on G&C will be gluten-free. If you don't need any special diet changes like me, you can stick to what would be the normal ingredient. For example, in this recipe I use gluten-free cocoa sandwich cookies and their equivalent would be Oreo Cookies or their generic counter-part.
Before I share this mouth watering dessert, I said in Monday's blog that there were some exciting changes coming to Gold & Charm. When I initially started this blog all I was seriously interested in was fashion. I loved talking style, design, fashion, thrifting, and all things related to shopping. But the more I continued to blog, the more I fell in love with this platform, and found it to be so useful for more than simply clothes and design. So, over the course of the next few months, accompanied by prayer, I will be adding some additional tabs for things such as weekly devotions, dating advice, food, travel, and parenthood. They will appear as God lays it on my heart. Please keep in mind, that this is not just a plat form for me to share my heart, but for you to share yours! I love to hear thoughts, opinions, feedback, etc. Please keep it coming. Your prayers and encouragement is honestly what keeps Gold & Charm running week to week.
Enough of the emotional stuff, back to dessert! I made this for the first time for Mother's Day and I ended up making it for my Dad's birthday as well, when I was in Alabama in June. It has been a hit from the beginning, and it's one of those desserts that you can hardly leave alone. If you love chocolate and ice cream, this is for you. I hope you get a chance to enjoy it soon! Let me know what you think!
P.S. I completely forgot to take some pictures of this pie the last time I made it, so just make it your way, it's one of those throw together pies, nothing to special to look at, but it's delicious to eat! I'll try to do better next recipe I share. LOL
The P.m.s. Fighter
Happy Monday! I hope y'all had an incredible weekend! We dedinitely did. If you follow me on Instagram you probably saw that we went to an Oakland Athletics game as a family Friday night, so much fun!! And then Omar and I had a date-day and went to the USC vs Cal game, go Trojans, on Saturday. It was a weekend full of sports, but it was fabulous! It's one of the best ways to welcome in fall.
Have y'all been paying attention to the craziness regarding the National Anthem and stuff? Wild, huh? This country is so divided, and the hate is almost unbelievable. It's like we are literally searching for reasons to be mad at people we don't agree with. I know God is so displeased at the hatred. 1 John 3:15, "Anyone who hates another brother or sister is really a murderer at heart. And you know that murderers don't have eternal life within them."
If that is not a sobering statement, I don't know what is. Hating for hates sake is horrible and then hating someone because they hate you stinks too! Scripture also says, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you," Matthew 5:43-44 I encourage you let verse 44 be your anthem when people are angry at you, when people hate on you, or when you feel like you have been treated unfairly. Be counter-cultural but doing the hard thing! Skin color is only a topical issue. What really lies beneith the surface is the evil heart of man. God promised to change our hearts through the blood of Jesus. So if you are struggling with hatred in your heart, or even having ill-will against another, ask Jesus to change your heart and your reactions. He will, I can promise you that.
So, moving on to something a bit more light-hearted! HA! This fall trend is a classic one that comes around almost every year, sometimes with a little style change here and there. And that trend is... Leopard print! One of the most fabulous statement patterns ever! I love it! Seriously, I would probably cover my house in it, if I could... Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, but I still love it.
Thankfully, this is a pattern that goes with just about any style, and any color. I particularly like it with the rich cranberry color like wearing in these photos. You could style it with just about any color red, if you like that color, but I personally like the richer reds and not so much the bright ones. I bought the cranberry long sleeved tee a couple sizes up so I could tie it in the front or to the side, if I wanted to add some interest to what was going on underneath the bold print.
I paired the top and cardigan with a neutral distressed pant, because you seriously can't go wrong with black ripped denim! It goes with like, EVERYTHING! And to continue to tie in the black, I added this lovely beaded statement necklace (pssst: $5 at Walmart, I wasn't able to find it online though, so if you are interested, you may have to check out your store to see if they sell them)
When it came to the shoes, I would definitely say, if you already have a bold colored piece, as well as the leopard, keep the shoe neutral. Because I already had the black denim and black jewelry, I wanted to bring out a bit of the tan/camel color from the cardigan with the boot. That is usually a safe option. If you were to pair a similar cardigan with a black top underneath, then I would say make your shoes the other contrasting color.
Leopard print is very bold, so I tend to gravitate to an edgier look over all, or in contrast, and extremely clean and classic look like stark white and black. Either look usually comes out looking really spectacular!
If you aren't really a bold print person, a great way to add some leopard print is withpair of flats or boots, a necklace/choker, or a scarf. All those fit perfectly into an autumn wardrobe. There are plenty of ways to incorporate some leopard print into your fall wardrobe, so don't feel like it has to be a top or bottoms, it can be accessories too!
Leopard is a great print to pair with another pattern, so I will add some inspiration boxes to the COLOR tab at the top of the page. It is q great jump start to pattern mixing this autumn, as well.
Have a fabulous Monday! Stay tuned for some really exciting changes coming to G&C on Wednesday!
