Hey ladies, do you know what today is? It's HUMP DAY! I can't believe it is already Wednesday... thank the Lord! I am already so ready for this weekend. So far we don't have any plans, but maybe we'll have a family day out if the weather will cooperate. It's so hot here, although nothing like the horrible humidity of the south. My hubby has me on a strict budget while we prepare to purchase our first home in Cali, so we are somewhat limited in what our activities can be. Last weekend we went down to San Jose, and that was so much fun. Basically the only money we spent was on gas and food, and we had a fabulous time. We celebrated a family members birthday, went and got some great mexican food, and then enjoyed the country side on the drive home. It's amazing how much fun just spending time together can be. If you have any ideas of inexpensive things to do, please share in the comments! I'd love to hear them.
So, I wanted to take a minute to talk about color! Pops of color add an element of fun to basically any neutral outfit! But finding the right color can sometimes be a challenge if you tend to be more of a safe dresser. So here are some color combos that I love and that tend to be my go to's in general dressing.
Yellow/Gray: There are so many shades of gray, and there are so many shades of yellow. I tend to chose a more pastel or buttery yellow when wearing a dark gray, and a bolder yellow when wearing a lighter shade of gray. Gold is by far my favorite metal to wear when wearing anything gray. It keeps your outfit from looking too monochromatic, like it could if you wore all silver.
Pink/Black: So unlike gray, there aren't as many noticeable shades of black. Yes, there ARE shades of black, but the difference is often so subtle, we aren't going to get caught up in the technicalities of the absence of color. I personally feel like pink is such a complementary color to black. I think I feel that way because pink is a much softer color. Pink is great contrast to the harsh black. Thankfully, there are so many shades of pink your choices are endless. My favorites pink shades with black are either blush or hot pink. As you can see from the outfit above, I opted for hot pink. The top had such a fun feel to it, I didn't want a pink tone that was too simple. I wanted something that would really make the whole look pop.
Beige/Teal: This look has a very exotic, beach(y) feel. It's light and airy yet it really makes a statement. Since beige is such a neutral tone it is definitely necessary to have a bold color to keep from getting all washed out. Or if your main color is teal, it's nice to keep it chic and classic with softer colors and accessories.
Black & White/Coral: So I have so many B&W striped or polka dotted pieces, and one of my favorite accent colors to wear is coral. It is bold yet so feminine. I feel like adding the coral shade over another pink or red keeps it from looking too much like Barbie when I am looking for a more classic look.
Cream/Wine: Just so you know, I am not a major red lover, but there are certain tones that I feel like I gravitate to wayyyyyyy TOO much! I like red tones with cream rather than white because red can be too harsh next to stark white. Cream softens the red tones and makes it more aesthetically pleasing.
Camel/Olive: I love this combo with gold or silver. It is so simple, not too overwhelming, and is perfect during autumn. It has a very subtle yet put-together feel.
White/Navy: This is unbelievably classic! It's very nautical, yet it is appropriate for most styles! Because navy is also a neutral you could add another shade of blue, pink, gold, or green accent if you wanted something even more exciting.
Navy/Mustard: I absolutely love mustard! I feel like I could never have enough mustard colored pieces. Generally, I am not a yellow wearer, but mustard is much deeper richer tone. As a blonde girl with yellow undertones in my skin, I have to be careful how I wear yellow, but mustard was one of those special colors that I could get away with.
Off White/Eggplant: Eggplant is such a royal color to me. It is rich and goes on basically every skin tone. It has the look of sophistication while not being too gaudy. It's also my favorite shade of purple! And it just looks chic.
These were just a few easy color combos, but feel free to experiment with more. If you have a combo that you naturally gravitate to, please share it in the comments!
