Merry Memorial Day, y'all! As fun as this three day weekend is, this is such a sobering holiday. It is a day that often brings me to tears when I begin to think about the ultimate sacrifice given by so many men and women for my freedom. Yet, there is such a joy too...the fact we can celebrate the freedom we so dearly love thanks to their sacrifice.
I also love the feel of Memorial Day, the beautiful weather, the family spirit, the delicious food. Oh, it's fun! So when contemplating what the perfect Memorial Day outfit would be I knew I wanted to talk about these lovely little shortalls. They have the perfect relaxed feel for a three day weekend.
When this trend really started to become popular, I was totally unsure of what I thought of shortalls (shorts/overalls.) I mean I remember wearing them at like age seven...but I wasn't sure about reliving the second grade fashion statements. So I was a little apprehensive at first, but boy, now I am totally sold! And let me tell you why...
They are so comfortable and fun! Especially as a nursing mom, this outfit makes the process unbelievably easy. It's easy to unclasp and there isn't too much material so that my sweetie's face gets lost in the fabric! And don't even get me started on the pockets! As a mom to a ten month old, it's amazing what a blessing pockets become.
They are also perfectly distressed, and I love the frayed hem. The unfinished look is such a fun vibe! It's perfect for spring walks in the park, running those every day errands, and of course, relaxed holidays like Memorial Day. Because the denim is a neutral, there are endless possibilities for what you could do for the top. A red and white striped tee-shirt would be totes patriotic! I have seen some super fun ideas for underneath, such as an off-the-shoulder top, a thin hoodie, a short sleeved tee, or a plaid button up. I found this particular pair at Ross for less than $20.
I paired this particular look with sandals, but I love it with a pair of Converse! Booties would be fabulous as well. I added some hoops and a floral band watch, then finished the look with a fedora. I wanted to go for a bit of a messy look, so I didn't want my hair to be perfectly straight or curly. I love wearing these classic sunnies too. They are extremely versatile, and classic, which helps pull the ensemble together.
Do you have any fun plans for Memorial Day? Have you taken full advantage of your three day weekend? I am so excited to have my hubby with me! He works crazy hours, so I love weekends like this where we can spend one-on-one quality time together. Just another amazing blessing to enjoy from the greatest sacrifice made by our men and women in uniform. Happy Memorial Day!
