Hola, Y'all! How is your Hump Day, thus far? I am so excited it's Wednesday becauseeeee it's my birthday week! And every day is one step closer to September 3rd, and I am looking forward to our 3 day weekend. I always love that about my birthday, having a relaxing holiday so close to my actual day of birth. Some years my birthday actually falls on Labor Day, but unfortunately that isn't happening this year.
Speaking of a work holiday, I thought this would be a good day to share a fun work wear outfit. I was actually asked a couple weeks back if capris were still in style at all. Obviously, they aren't as popular as they used to be a few years back, but just because they aren't necessarily as popular doesn't mean they aren't wearable. For Work Wear Wednesday, I wanted to share a quick way to dress up a pair of capris while making them quite fashionable ithis summer.
Most of the time I kind of avoid the color yellow, just because I'm a blonde and some yellows tend to almost wash me out. But these pastel yellow capris were so cute when I saw them in Cato while I was in Alabama, I just had to have them. They reminded me of something Audrey Hepburn would have worn, and she is totally one of my celebrity style inspirations! I'd worn them a couple times since coming home, but just couldn't decide if I really liked them or not. I don't have the thinnest calves so capris can tend to hit my legs weird. But when asked about capris, I was challenged to find an outfit that really worked for my body and would be work appropriate.
I chose this sweet bell-sleeved top to compliment the yellow. I mean seriously... blue and yellow together? Yes please! The top helped give the whole look a professional yet relaxed feeling. It kept the whole mood summery and drew attention away from my calves. Haha!
When wearing capris it's important to figure out the whole look to make sure it compliments your body shape. Because I don't have the best legs for capris I wanted to draw more attention up top to the blouse and keep my legs looking longer with heels. The bottoms are fitted so I contrasted with a flowy top. Often times when you match fitted bottoms with a fitted top, or flowy bottoms with a flowy top, you end up getting either a look that is too form fitting or too frumpy, respectively. So keeping the contrast can really help pull off a professional look made with capris.
Capris are over all, much more complicated than typical denim jeans or shorts. Because of where they rest on your legs, picking the other pieces becomes a bit more complicated to create a look that is flattering all over.
When wearing capris the most important step is to be sure to keep your legs looking long! Whether you wear heels or wedges, in most cases you are going to want to wear something to create the illusion of long legs. If you happen to have thinner, small calves, sandals work too, since you don't necessarily have to create an illusion to flatter your legs. When your legs appear long your whole look becomes thinner. Capris have the ability to make you look much wider than you actually are if you don't pick the right shoes. And who wants to look bigger than they are?!
Now capris have a stigma for being a bit old-ladyish, but that doesn't have to be the case! Keeping your top trendy and your shoes flattering totally dispel that thought! So don't let that idea keep you from wearing the cute capris that are laying on your closet shelf! They are definitely nothing to be feared!
Shifting gears, with all that's been happening in Texas, it's such a sobering reminder that clothes, fashion, trends, and styles don't matter! All that really matters is that your dependence is put in Jesus alone. Only He can meet the needs of your soul and of your family. He provides protection, he provides hope. It reminds me of Isaiah 43:2, "When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you." And for all those walking through this storm, God will be faithful to provide when you put your hope in Christ. God has had His hand upon Texas and you see His heart so clearly when you watch all of the incredible, and selfless rescues performed by ordinary men and women who put their own safety aside and rescue those in need. Jesus did the same for us, when He saw us drowning in our sin, He put aside His Holy Crown and came to earth to rescue our souls from damnation. Only He gave His life to save ours! What a precious example we have to follow. Don't cease to pray for all the victims of Hurricane Harvey, as well as lifting up the families who lost a loved one in this horrible storm.
God bless yall! Have a great Wednesday!
