HAPPY MONDAY! Today is a good day to have a good day! Some believe Monday's are harder after a great weekend, but I feel like when you have a good weekend your attitude sets you up for a good Monday. I guess it's not that way for everyone, but to each their own. How was your weekend? I hope it was fabulous!
So, as you can tell we took a little excursion to Muir Woods Saturday, and it was one of the best decisions we've made since moving to Cali. We've only lived here for about four months, but we have failed miserably at taking advantage of all the incredible attractions around us. Since my honey works nights quite often, he is usually more worn down on weekends, but neither of us are really the kind of people who just want to lay around all weekend. Unfortunately, when we get bored we end up spending tons of money, and that's never any good (unless I'm clothes shopping, of course! ;)) So last Monday we decided we were going to get out and do something fun (and cheap.) We settled on Muir Woods, aka home of the majestic Redwoods! It's only about an hour from our house; and it's a beautiful drive through some California countryside into the gorgeous hills.
Well, the drive was fabulous and the early morning hours revealed the real peace that you don't often get to experience in California. The Bay fog, affectionately named Carl, made a beautiful appearance along the curvy two lane highway close to Muir Woods. We had the opportunity to drive through some sweet little towns, and just enjoy the real Bay Area.
We we finally got about a quarter mile out from the park at 7:56am, (the park opens at 8am) and there was a line from the gate all the way to our car! And I totally started to freak out that we wouldn't have parking because I'd heard the parking was extremely limited. Thankfully, once they started letting cars in at 8am, we found a spot almost instantly, and we were really close to the park gate itself. There honestly wasn't much parking, but thankfully we got their early enough we didn't have any issues. I was so grateful that God had heard our prayers, and we didn't have any issues that would have made us late. Then when we went to pay, the ticket office wasn't open, so we got in free! Ahhh! ::happy dance::
Muir Woods was absolutely fabulous. I mean, I have never walked through a forest that invoked such awe at the trees size and loveliness! It was by far one of the neatest things I have ever done. Even Sami who is less than a year old, looked in utter amazement at the beauty of this place. If you are ever in the Bay Area, it is a trip of a life time.
No. 1: Arrive early or take the shuttle. The parking lot fills up quickly. And I didn't see much extra parking, either.
No.2: If you are a mommy or daddy, this is the place to babywear. We were able to travel the main trails, but due to our stroller we were not able to go on some of the trails deeper into the woods.
No.3: They do have a cafe, but it is quite expensive. We just brought a few snacks and ate before we went and after we left.
No.4: Dress warm. The forest is damp and shady, so wearing a jacket and jeans is not a crazy idea, even in ththe summer.
No.5: Buy something at the gift shop. This is totally one of those special places you may only see once, so it is worth commemorating.
No.6: We didn't find this an all day affair so we ended up making a trek to San Francisco for the afternoon. SF is so close., it was well worth the extended trip. And we got to cross the Golden Gate Bridge. I've already done that, but it's so lovely, it's just amazing.
It is well worth the trip and something we would love to do with friends! It so peaceful and tranquil. Just what we needed for the weekend. Please excuse my crazy hair too! It was so damp my curly hair just frizzed out on me!
I'd love to hear about your weekend or if you have any recommendations for future Bay Area adventures! Have a fantastic week! Stay tuned for more exciting news on the future of Gold & Charm!
