I tried to take Gold and Charm somewhere, and somehow I ended up... nowhere.
But then God began to shine a new light on an old platform.
When the Lord allowed me to create Gold and Charm, I wanted it to be a place where people could come and see some fun, unique, and helpful posts regarding how to style your closet, fun new beauty products, thrifting helps, introduction to trends, and inspiration for cultivating personal style, all the while providing daily encouragement from scripture.
That was my dream goal. But, it became my life obsession. I spent hours trying to figure out all the right hashtags on Instagram to boost my presence. I tried to post on Pinterest to gain more followers. I tried to promote on Facebook. And none of it seemed to do too much good. It began to become a selfish pursuits as I was more worried about how many views I got instead of how many people I could help. I would spend hours preparing content and before I knew what happened, my dream goal was lost in the shuffle of directive in comparison filled social media and time, and my days were filled with worthless wonderings while my son was dying to play with me, and my husband was more interested in our quality time than the quality of the pictures I was producing.
I didn’t start Gold and Charm to be a full time job. I started it to be a creative outlet that would, hopefully in-turn, bless others. So when it became all I was doing, it wasn’t at all healthy for me or my family.
So I backed off. And after a while I’d try to revive the heart of G&C, and it would get lost, once again. But, there’s this part of my heart that Jesus has been cultivating for years. I absolutely love to write. I enjoy styling closets, and helping others find what makes them comfortable, but writing is my jam. If I could, I would spend hours writing. But when I’d sit down to write a post, many of them just felt empty. Yet, I couldn’t shake the feeling that this blog was no accident, it had a purpose, and something needed to be done with it... but I just wasn’t able or willing to commit to the time needed to create/shoot content, write, and advertise it because I’d been there done that and had become overly committed.
Some of you may remember my dear friend KD, who is a style wiz! This lady’s taste is impeccable and effortlessly chic. She is such a beauty, inside and out. And Jesus has placed a dream in her heart.
She is in the midst of starting her own consulting business, helping in all areas of life and style (I.e., beauty, hair, makeup, decorating, fashion, and styling.) And she is successful in every one of those areas.
So when she approached me with her new business venture, little lights starting flashing in my mind, “Content Creator! Content Creator!” She reveals her incredible skills on an established platform, and I still get the chance to share my heart regarding styling/fashion with the world, while supporting each other and supporting you.
So we’ve come now to a place where KD is now head of content, writing occasionally, while I stay on as the author, styling occasionally. While she holds a full time job, she has graciously agreed to produce content in several areas, including beauty and fashion. If you want her personal help, her email is located in the “About Us” tab.
When prayerfully considering this new collaboration, I felt that same sweet dream, the initial reason I started blogging to begin with, return. It was as if God desired for me to not go at this alone.
God loves friendship. He loves unity. He loves when His creation encourages one another.
So KD, welcome to the team!
I am so excited for all of you, our friends and readers, to see what amazing work this lady does! You won’t be disappointed.
Her first post will be up Thursday, so stay tuned.
Have a fabulous day!
God bless, Xoxox
